It's graduation time for many college seniors and time for many of the Class of 2015 to hit the job market. What types of starting salaries should they expect?
The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) analyzed starting salary data through the end of 2014 for the Class of 2014. In the US, graduating Class of 2014 at the bachelor's degree level achieved an average starting salary of $48,127. This salary is up 5.8 percent from the average starting salaries of the Class of 2013.
This is a large change from the 1.2 percent increase in starting salaries for the Class of 2012 to Class of 2013, demonstrating the economic recovery for college graduates.
Engineering majors had the highest median salary at $64,891, followed by business majors at $49, 807 and liberal arts and humanities majors at $38,604.
Compared to graduates earning degrees in business fields through 2014 saw starting salaries fall from $53,901 to $49,807 from the class of 2013 to class of 2014.
The increase in new graduate salaries also outpaced the average salary raise received by active employees in 2014, which have risen an average of 3 percent, depending on location, position and industry.
