You spend a lot of time at work, so wouldn't it be nice to have good relationships with your coworkers? It's been proven that friends at work make work a happier place to be.
Need help making friends at work? We have some tips!
Take Advantage of Social Opportunities
Attend company events if your company hosts them. Family days, new hire mingles, networking events, sports leagues, team outings, attend as many as you can! Many office friendships are forged over activities outside of the office. Show up, make an effort to get to know your teammates and surely you'll find something to talk about at the office.
Join Cross-Departmental Teams
If your company is skimpy on the social events, then you can expand your friendship horizons by going outside the confines of your department. Join committees, volunteer, find a way to branch out from your department and work with others. Let your boss know that you're open to cross-department projects. It proves you're a team player and will expose you to others around the office.
Be Helpful
This is perhaps the most obvious and easiest way to build positive friendships at work. When someone needs your help, do whatever you can to assist. This helps you both professionally and socially. You'll develop a reputation for a can-do attitude. When you're open to helping, your coworkers will come to you with social opportunities to develop deeper friendships.
Talk About Non-Work Related Topics
It's those non-work related conversation topics that really deepen relationships with your coworkers. Though it's great to have someone to bounce ideas off of for work-related projects, it's those random conversations about your life outside of work, TV shows you watch, music you listen to or hobbies you enjoy, that really help you connect with your coworkers.
Don't be afraid to establish friendships at work! It'll make your days go faster and hopefully make the workplace a little more enjoyable!
